My Journey with Brainprot

I am Ayan, and I have worked with Brainprot for about a year. The development of Brainprot follows. Initially, I was part of the IBPM group. My work was largely filtering out MaxQant output files, where I learned how to apply various statistical Excel tools for big data analysis. Currently, my work is data mining for the BDPM, mining 5 out of 11 disease datasets! I did get a lot of knowledge from the experience. My ability to read papers has improved as a result of reading hundreds of papers as part of my work, which is very helpful to me as an undergraduate student.

The next step is the most fascinating because it involves using Perseus, a software for statistical analysis. Using this tool, we primarily filter and normalise the data before plotting the Volcano plot. I've always enjoyed statistics, and this was the first project where I actually got to use them. I learned the mathematical foundations and applications of exploratory data analysis, such as PCA, Forest plots, Heat maps, and others, out of interest. Yes, that does sound crazy coming from a Biotech undergrad, but that's what motivation drives you to accomplish!

We also received training in the application of well-known software programmes for proteomics research, such as Skyline and Fragpipe. Overall, I'd say that the Brainprot development has helped in my knowledge and skill growth. I feel really fortunate to be a member of this incredible team and project.
