The idea of the BrainProt development emerges in discussion with Prof. Sanjeeva. I was telling him regarding the struggle of acquiring aproper healthy control brain sample for our brain tumor studies. Without knowing the basal level expression of proteins identification of biomarker is like shooting in the dark. He suddenly told me why don't we develop a database which will guide the whole community to get an idea of the expression of profile of proteins in different neuroanatomical regions of Human brain. The journey starts from there, it was 2019. We started working with some enthusiastic and intelligent brains of IIT Bombay undergrads Sanjyot and Chetanya. It was neither an easy task for me to make them understand biology and nor for them to make me understand coding. But it was a great journey and we learned the domains. Gradually, multiple collaborations from the globe and also from India started developing which could help to develop our first version of brainprot in 2020. The manuscript got published and an idea transformed into reality. Then a lot of students from different parts of India showed their interest to work in the upcoming project of BrainProt. We started designing and developing new domains. Currently, BrainProt has 4 functional domains and two domains are upcoming, which makes it one of the informative KnowledgeBase for human brain. Our goal and aim is to make brainprot a foundation platform which will serve the neuroscience society round the globe. We also believe our objectives supports the role of HBPP (Human Brain Proteome Project) under the patronage of HUPO.
